Week 3 Reflection

Week 3 was about learning resources and technologies.

The focal point in this week's online class was Open Education Resources (OER). From the reading and my own understanding, OER is an important part of online teaching and learning programs in higher education. Pacific Islands can make good use of this as it is mostly available online and free of charge. From a teacher's point of view, it is very helpful to me as I will be able to use the notes, quizzes, questions, and other related materials and modify them to my own needs to teach my students. The students can also make use of this and use them as a reference/ revision guide.

I watched the videos on Moodle that were provided by my course coordinator.

Through the readings and video guides, I was able to strengthen my knowledge and skills in online learning applications. For example, the presenter in "Reimagining Learning" threw some light on how to break the status quo and how online learning can be effective.

For instance, the first video by Daniel M. Russell focuses on Google Scholar. Since I have been using Google Scholar it was easier for me to follow the video.  In the second video, I was able to build some knowledge and skills in preparing a Google presentation. The other videos enabled me to enhance my understanding of the evolution of social media and how it can be applied to build a social network.

In my learning task, I had to look for a Web 2.0 tool that I had never used before and make a 2-minute audio or video on that. Initially, I made a video on Google Classroom, overlooking that I have used this before. I then searched for some other tools and found Canvas amongst many others. I made a 2-minute audio on Canvas, its features and my views on that.
