Session 3 reflection

 Session 3 reflection

Session 3 focused on e-learning trends in higher education. In the first part, I learnt about "Learning Analytics" and its implication on the PICs. Learning analytics helps in the development of better pedagogies and learning outcomes. It also enhances classroom teaching which enables building a stronger collaboration between the teacher and the student.

In addition to this, this session also elaborated on BYOD and mLearning. There are increasing capabilities of BYOD in the Pacific. With growing technology and investments in e-learning devices, it has been observed that a lot of students are now using their mobile phones and tablets in the classroom for learning purposes. Another trend that emerged recently in higher education is makerspaces. Through my observation in USP, small groups collaborations with a mentor, learning specialist and peers continue to grow.

The session also focused on AR and VR. These two are considered to be new trends in higher education, however, PICs need to wait for some time before they can be applied in the classrooms. The high capital costs challenge the higher education institutions in the Pacific especially with the implementation of  AR and VR

Another forward-looking area of interest is e-assessment. There is no doubt that digital technologies are playing a central role in today's teaching and learning activities. Therefore, with the rapidly increasing use of computers and other digital gadgets, teachers are sharing the assessment through online quizzes, online tests, discussion forums and computerized projects as well.

In a nutshell, I can say that e-learning is very crucial in higher education in developing countries nowadays because technological advancements demand higher education institutions to streamline teaching and learning appropriately under the digital platform to converge with other developed countries.
