Session 5 and Conclusion

The final session was the most important in ED403. This session focused on the e-facilitation practicum.

My group, Aristotle started preparing for Moodle shell design in week 10 as we were the first to start the exercise in week 10. It was overwhelming for me to be part of the meeting conducted by the group and contribute towards the Moodle shell design. My group chose to develop learning materials and assessments on "Exploring ChatGPT in Higher Education". Each group member was required to make announcements, upload learning materials, and assess students at the end of the week. Similarly, in the following consecutive weeks, Group Downes (Week 12) and Group Illich (Week 13) continued with the exercise.  While this was in progress, I continued to work on my e-learning case study and prepared myself for the final presentation scheduled for week 14 Friday.  The focal point for the presentation was on online learning. Thus, it was very exciting to listen to the presenters from different higher education institutes. For instance, how educators in higher education are tackling the issue of AI and Plagiarism, is something that caught my attention. In a nutshell, the e-facilitation practicum was another worthwhile activity in PGCTT programme.

Reflection -My ED403 Journey.

ED403 allowed me to become a better teacher in today’s fast-changing learning environment. The name of the course itself gives a boost to delve deep into it. I was overwhelmed with the learning resources. Notes, videos, and discussions were very simple and easy to understand. Some of the key achievements and challenges are:

Achievements

1.      OER – the assessment on OER, especially the online course from another university was very interesting. I appreciated my effort towards the OER online course and was happy to complete it in my first attempt. Additionally, I was able to expand my search on how to look for OERs for my course.

2.      Posting on X – I used Twitter some years back and this course refreshed my skills towards it once again. Posting and responding on X was a fascinating learning experience.

3.      Collaboration and networking – The discussion forum and e-facilitation exercises allowed me to connect with my colleagues and share information on the key concepts in the course. On the same, I was able to collaborate with colleagues from other higher education institutions. During the e-facilitation exercise, I was able to play the role of a teacher and student. Thus, I explored some new things which I will use in my courses. For instance, the page layout, assessment method, student feedback, and reports.

4.      Moodle Page – The Moodle page was very user-friendly. Information dissemination through the Moodle page was simple and easy to use.

 Challenges

Since I had an increase in my student number for the course that I am teaching, I found it a bit challenging to balance my work with my studies. However, to make things work, I had to sacrifice my weekends to complete the activities and the assessment. Finally, the tradeoff was a worthy one.

I wish everyone all the best.
